About Dr. Wael Berro

Education & Career
Dr Wael Berro holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, an MSc in Health Policy Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics and School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK, and a BSc in Public Health from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.
Dr Berro began his career as an HSE trainee doctor in Dublin, Ireland in 2006, and between 2008 and 2010 he was an associate tutor at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, providing clinical teaching to third year medical students attending Beaumont Hospital. From 2016 to 2018, Dr Berro was the associate medical director and family medicine consultant at the Emirates Hospital, Dubai, before moving to King’s College Hospital London – Dubai, Jumeirah branch, as medical director and family medicine consultant. In this role he acted as operational supervisor of the clinic, managing a team of 11 doctors, 12 nurses and 15 members of support staff. He also undertook fiscal management duties, and during his time in post he increased the monthly revenue generated by the clinic fourfold.
Since 2016, Dr Berro has been a family medicine physician at a primary care clinic, responsible for overseeing its day-to-day operations and diagnosing and treating patients on an out-patient basis, as well as conducting follow-ups and condition management relating to these individuals.

Dr Berro was granted membership of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in 2009 and achieved ECFMG certification in the same year. In summer 2016 he became a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, and he still holds this membership today. Dr Berro is the recipient of a number of accolades, including the Zachary Johnson Award, bestowed by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2007, and a runner-up prize granted at the Biological Society Research Evening (also held by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland) in 2009. In 2010, Dr Berro was the recipient of a prize for the best oral presentation delivered at the biannual meeting of the Irish Society of Gastroenterology in Kilkenny, Ireland.

Interests
Fluent in English, Arabic and French, Dr Berro can also speak conversational-level Spanish and holds both an Irish and Lebanese passport. In his free time he enjoys sports, particularly handball and football, international cuisine (especially Lebanese dishes) and travel – Dr Berro has visited more than 34 countries to date.
Dr Berro has an interest in professional topics including health equality, wellness, lifestyle medicine, health coaching and mentoring, and he is a committed mental health advocate. He cites his key skills as communication, team building, negotiating and influencing, as well as the ability to organise and plan.
